The Blizzard Beach Legend
It was a meteorological phenomenon of the strangest order. One balmy day, a freak winter storm developed over the western end of Walt Disney World Resort and covered the area with a thick blanket of powdery white snow. Before you could say "hot cocoa," plans were underway for Florida's first ski resort.

Ski lifts were put up, toboggan runs were laid down and an entire resort area blossomed around the mountain of snow. Yet before the first skier could strap on a pair of boots and stick his poles into the snow, the temperatures returned to their normal Florida levels, and the powdery snow quickly turned into slippery slush. The ski resort operators saw their dream melting down the hillside. Yet that's not all they saw.

As the slush began cascading down and pools of water began to form, an echoing "yahoo" was heard from the summit of the mountain. Everyone looked up to see a playful alligator careening down the melting hillside. He slid to the base of the mountain and landed in a pool of water with a thunderous splash. They knew at once that they were back in business.

Slalom courses, bobsled and toboggan runs became downhill waterslides. The creek of melted snow that formed at the base of the mountain became a relaxing tube ride. The chairlift carried swimmers instead of skiers. The ski jump became the tallest and fastest water slide in the world. The ski resort became known as Disney's Blizzard Beach, the must slushy, slippery, exhilarating water park anywhere!

Summit Plummet

Get set for a breathtaking 97-km/hour (60-mph) plunge straight down to a splash landing at the base of the mountain. The staggeringly high ski jump beckons you from anywhere in the Park.

Slush Gusher

Speed slide through this snow-banked gully.

Runoff Rapids

Hop on to an inner tube run and careen down twisting, turning flumes. Challenge two open slides and one enclosed "black hole."

Melt-Away-Bay

Splash around in a 4000-square-metre (one acre) bobbing wave pool. It's nestled against the base of Mt. Gushmore, and is constantly fed by "melting snow" waterfalls.

Cross Country Creek

Chill out on a tube as you bob along a lazy creek circling the entire Park. On the way, you'll float through a bone-chilling ice cave. Look out! Once inside the mysterious cave, you'll be splashed with the "melting" ice from overhead.

Ski Patrol Training Camp

This training camp, designed for pre-teens, is equipped with inner-tube slides, a T-bar, culvert slide, and a challenging ice-flow walk along floating icebergs.

Tike's Peak

Big fun for little tikes. This kid-size version of Mt. Gushmore includes short water slides, rideable critters, a snow-castle, fountain play area, and a squirting ice pond.

Chair Lift

Wooden-bench chair lifts sporting colourful overhead umbrellas and snow skis on their underside, converted from ski-resort to beach-resort use. These functional chairs carry you over the craggy face of Mt. Gushmore, from its base at the beach to its summit.

Teamboat Springs

The world's longest family white-water raft ride takes three- to five-passenger rafts down a twisting, 366-metre (1,200-foot) series of rushing waterfalls. Don't worry. You're all going down together.

Toboggan Racer

An eight-lane water slide that sends you racing over exhilarating dips as they descend the "snowy" slopes.

Downhill Double Dipper

On your mark! Get set! GO!!! The world's only side-by-side racing slides let you make your best time against competitors as you swoosh down twin tube runs at speeds of up to 40km/hour (25mph)!

Snow Stormers

Zip downhill on a toboggan. Three flumes descend from the top of the mountain and follow a switchback course through slalom gates.

Rock Climbing on Mt. Gushmore

The Mount Gushmore Expedition Climbing Experience at Disney's Blizzard Beach will give you an adventure like no other! Climbers receive some quick mountaineer training, then "Face the Slush and Climb Mt. Gush." All climbing gear is provided. Located in the Ski Patrol area of Blizzard Beach.

Information Center

A limited amount of complimentary tubes are available at all tube rides. Tubes provided at the attractions should remain in these locations.
Locker and towel rentals, plus life vests for children, are available at Snowless Joe's. Blizzard Beach also provides life vests free of charge to guests who wish to leave identification (passport, driver's license, other identification with photo or hotel identification) at Snowless Joe's.
Swim attire with rivets, buckles or exposed metal are not permitted on the attractions.
Coolers are allowed however, no alcoholic beverages or glass containers are permitted.
Children under the age of ten must be accompanied by an adult.
Blizzard Beach may close due to inclement weather or maximum guest capacity. Admission media is non-refundable.

Water Parks close seasonally for refurbishment.
